IN THE AIR Approaching the Catskills

“COMMANDER, we’re about twenty mikes from touchdown.”

Agent Doughty shifted in his seat and clicked the transmitter to speak to the pilot. “What location is that, Captain?”

“FOB Dog Town, sir,” the pilot replied. “We’ll do a flyover of the path into the park, going in. If we spot a vehicle that doesn’t appear to belong, we’ll notify you and arrange for an emergency landing.”

“Copy that, Captain.” Doughty switched channels in his headset to address his teams. “Alpha team, you’re on me once we land. We will secure the area and ensure that zero tangos make an approach to the craft. Bravo, your main objective is to gather civilians onto this transport and get them out of the park.” He locked eyes with Mac. “Understood?”

“Copy that, Commander.” Mac turned and eyed each of his team members. “Those kids are our main objective. Personal property and whatever gear they rucked into the park are non-essentials.”

Doughty leaned forward and looked at each man. “Deadly force is authorized, gentlemen. If you spot one of these creatures and it appears hostile, do not…I repeat, do NOT hesitate to fire.”

After a round of affirmatives, Doughty sat back and took a deep breath, gripping his carbine tighter. “In and out, fellas. No casualties.”
